Why are trans fats bad? Trans fat has been initially thought to be a
good kind of fat, until a few years ago when scientists began to point
out that trans fats are actually deadly. Read on and learn more
about the fatal diseases that you can get from trans fat.
Trans fat is present on many foods that you eat. From the milk you
drank this morning to the cookies you were munching on in your desk,
trans fat is very much a part of your daily diet. Because of the
dangers of eating trans fat on every meal, the FDA has required food
sellers to specify the amount of trans fats on the label.
Why are trans fats bad? Trans fats are said to be the main culprit
behind heart attack and hypertension. This is because of its ability
to clog the arteries, thereby stopping the flow of blood. Trans fat
comes from hydrogenated oils, a type of liquid oil that is
artificially processed. Unlike other fats which are naturally pumped
out by the body, trans fat is only manufactured y the process called
as hydrogenation.
People are hooked on trans fat because it makes food taste good. It
also prolongs the shelf life of foods and makes them crispier. You can
often find trans fat on French fries, hamburgers, mayonnaise, lard,
shortening, and many other commercial products. Because trans fat is
easy to produce, it is generally cheaper than other types of fats.
This trend has become a convenient excuse for Americans to live a
fast-paced lifestyle where everything is produced in an instant. If
your breakfast always consisted of doughnuts and sandwiches and
waffles, you are no doubt living a trans fat diet. Trans fat does not
only result to heart diseases, you will also be highly susceptible to
other diseases such as diabetes, cancer and obesity if you continue
this lifestyle.
About 80 percent of trans fat is derived from canned or processed
foods. The remaining 20 percent is found on milk, red meat, and other
dairy products. If you want to significantly reduce your trans fat
consumption, focus more on cooking raw foods instead of relying on
processed foods that you can easily get off the counter.
Exercising daily is a great way to burn whatever trans fat you have
let into your system. Drink lots of water and eat more fruits and
veggies to naturally cleanse your body and purge all impurities and
trans fat hanging around your arteries.
